Kia Byers is hoping she’ll see her hard-won medals again. The Regina local, and member of the Canadian Canoe and Kayaking team, was in Saskatoon on Mon. afternoon when her car was broken into and a backpack containing her 2007 Pan Am Games gold gong and 2009 World Chamionship bronze gong were robbed.

Byers, twenty-one, was in Saskatoon participating in diverse public talking engagements to promote the approaching Vancouver olympic games, and was using the medals as a’show and tell’ tool.

‘The gongs are worthless’, Byers told News/Talk radio. ‘They don’t cost that much to make. The explanation why they are special is perhaps because I had to race to win them.’

Byers says she prepared to offer a reward to anyone who can retrieve her medals. Those with information related to the burglary are asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Department.
